College of Science and Mathematics Advising Center Mission Statement
Motto: It's all about our students!
The College of Science and Mathematics Academic and Pre-Health Advisors strive to connect with each student to recognize and support their unique advising needs. Advisors collaborate with students in a manner which empowers them to make informed, self-directed decisions in order to define and pursue their academic and professional aspirations.
Advising Center Services
Advising Center provides academic advising services to students within the college and pre-health advising to all students from within or outside of the college. Services include assistance with developing long-range academic plans, interpreting university and college policy and procedures, articulation agreements, study abroad planning, scheduling classes, financial aid SAP appeals, and helping you to understand your degree & graduation requirements. In addition, the Advising Center provides academic coaching for students experiencing academic difficulty.
Please visit: https://prehealth.calpoly.edu/about-us for more information on pre-health advising services.
Dual Advising Model
The College of Science and Mathematics offers a dual advising model for students in the college. You are assigned to a faculty mentor within your major and you also have regular access to meet with the professional advisors in the College of Science and Mathematics Advising Center. We encourage you to proactively build a rapport with both our professional academic advisors and to meet regularly with your faculty mentor for academic and career guidance throughout your time at Cal Poly. We are all here to partner with you in your educational journey of earning a bachelor's degree from Cal Poly!
Faculty within your major take an active role in academic and career mentoring. Students in the College of Science and Mathematics are assigned a faculty mentor from their major department. You are encouraged to meet with your faculty mentor on a regular basis for guidance and support. Please contact the CSM Advising center or your major department for the name and contact information of your faculty mentor.
