BAMS - Bailey Alumni Mentoring Students: A Bailey College Mentoring Program

Bailey College of Science and Math alumni mentoring student

Welcome students!

Join BAMS to find a mentor in your field of study!

All Bailey College of Science and Mathematics students are open to join and be matched with a BAMS Alumni mentor in their field.

Are you an alumni professional interested in becoming a mentor? Visit the BAMS for mentors page.

What is BAMS?

The Bailey College has launched a new program called Bailey Alumni Mentoring Students (BAMS), matching experienced alumni professionals with Bailey College students interested in the same field or industry.

Button that reads "Students, start here to find a mentor."

ONE-ON-ONE: BAMS benefits students by linking them one-on-one with an alum or a professional who is experienced and active in the industry or field they plan on entering. Students are paired with a mentor invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges and recognize opportunities.

WIN-WIN: BAMS Student Mentees will learn what to expect in graduate school or industry, how to approach challenges and gain career advice. BAMS Alumni Mentors will build their networks, develop skills to become better professionals and leaders, and experience the fulfilling rewards of giving back and supporting a student following in your footsteps.

Is this open to all students?

Yes, all students are welcome to sign up.

How will I be matched with a BAMS Alumni Mentor?

We’ll find the ideal match for both the Student Mentee and Alumni Mentor so that it’s a mutual fit. Cal Poly alumni will be matched with you based on your major, career interests, goals, needs, and preferences.

What do I need to know as a BAMS Student Mentee?

  • Bailey College is partnering with Mentor Collective to provide students the opportunity to connect with alumni on multiple levels. Through a matching survey, you can select not only similar career interests, but similar life experiences and activities.
  • The Mentor Collective platform will let you decide what is the best way to connect with your mentor.
  • As a BAMS Student Mentee, you will receive notices about upcoming events where you can speak to Alumni Mentors in-person.
  • Additionally, there are optional resources that you may want to take advantage of including a Bailey College Resource Guide that offers information and links for: Career Services, Academic Advising, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Campus Health & Wellbeing.

What is the commitment for a BAMS Student Mentee?

We ask for a 1-year commitment from our BAMS Student Mentees. This will give both the mentee and mentor enough time to establish a connection. During that year, virtual check-ins should happen at least monthly.

How do I sign up to become a BAMS Student Mentee?
