Started 2025
If you started in 2025, the department recommends that you:
• Complete HLTH 101 as soon as possible.
• Complete HLTH 265 by Winter 2026.
• Do not complete HLTH 298 before Spring 2026. Starting Fall 2026, the two courses will be combined into one course (HLTH 3318). We recommend you wait to complete HLTH 3318 until the 2026-2027 academic year.
• Wait to declare a concentration until Fall 2026.
If you have any issues enrolling in one of these classes, please stay on the waitlist (if applicable) and contact the department (kph@calpoly.edu) if you are unable to enroll.
If you have any questions about public health courses and concentration courses, please contact the Public Health Undergraduate Coordinator, Dr. Julia Alber, at jmalber@calpoly.edu

Step #3: Understand Your Current Credit
Before you plan ahead, you should first know where you are now. You should understand your Degree Progress Report and identify what credit you have in the following areas:
- General Education (GE) Courses
- Major Courses
- Support Courses
Understanding your current credit will help you determine which Catalog will be a better fit for you.
Understanding your 2022-26 Curriculum Sheet
Your Curriculum Sheet displays all of your degree course requirements in a one to two page snapshot.
How to access your Curriculum Sheet - 2022-2026 or Prior
- Go to the Degree Flowcharts and Curriculum Sheets website
- Select Your Catalog Year (please see your Poly Profile to determine your catalog year)
- Select your major
- Select your concentration (if applicable)
- Select Curriculum Sheet
The Curriculum Sheet is broken down into four main sections that are described below:
Major Courses
Major courses are the courses that make up your major curriculum. In some majors, this includes technical electives or concentrations.
Support Courses
Support courses are courses chosen by your department to provide foundational support for your Major Courses. In the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics, these courses sometimes double count as General Education Courses.
General Education (GE) Courses
General Education courses are broken down into several areas. You may notice some of these areas are completed through your Support Courses. In most cases, transfers still need to complete some GE courses at Cal Poly, including the Upper Division C.
Free Electives
Free Electives can be found on some major curriculum sheets. If your major has Free Electives, you can fulfill these with transfer credit (including Advanced Placement), pre-health prerequisites, or additional courses.
Understanding Your Degree Progress Report
Your Degree Progress Report
Your Degree Progress Report (also known as your DPR) is the most important tool to understand as a Cal Poly student. Like the Curriculum Sheet, the Degree Progress Report displays all of your degree requirements to graduate. The Evaluations Unit uses the Degree Progress Report to post your degree so it is important to make sure the courses you have and will be taking are fulfilling the requirements you expected in your DPR.
Your DPR should be run at least once per quarter to track your progress to a degree.
The Degree Progress Report is also broken down into sections that are described below.
As a reminder, your Degree Progress Report will reflect your current Catalog. At this time, the Degree Progress Report for the 2026-2028 is not available.
How to access your Degree Progress Report
- Log in to my.calpoly.edu
- Go to your Student Center under My Apps on the left hand side
- Click on Degree Progress Report under the drop-down menu and then click on the arrows
How to read your Degree Progress Report
Scrolling through the Degree Progress Report can be a little confusing. It can be helpful to look at the Degree Progress Report with your Curriculum Sheet in hand as it is broken up into sections similarly to your Curriculum Sheet.
You can view your Degree Progress Report through the PDF or online.
If you view it online, you can select "Hide Satisfied Requirements" to see what requirements you will need to plan for.
At the top, you will find General Undergraduate Degree Requirements. These are important, but don't be concerned because most of these requirements will be met as you complete your courses.
The United States Cultural Pluralism Requirement and the Graduation Writing Requirement are also in this section. We will review both of those requirements below.

Next your General Education Requirements appear.

After GE Courses, you will see a section for your Major Requirements, which includes your support courses. If you have a declared concentration, then this section will also appear below your Major Requirements.

It is so important that you READ all the notes for each section in the DPR. Not reading the notes may mean you miss important information and take a class that is not necessary. If you have any questions, let us know at bcsmadvising@calpoly.edu. We are here to help!

What is changing with General Education (GE) Courses?
The 2026-28 Semester Catalog will have a new GE pattern. Changes to the new GE pattern and how they align with the previous GE pattern can be found on the GE 2026 Webpage.
Semester Catalog Changes:
- Reduction in GE Units: The total number of lower-division GE units will be reduced by five semester units. This includes:
- Removal of GE Area E (Lifelong Learning)
- Removal of the Lower Division Area C Elective (Arts and Humanities) - GE C1 (3A) and GE C2 (3B) will still be required
- Removal of GE Electives (8 units) currently required
- All GE area letters and numbers are changing from letter-first to number-first (ie: GE A2 will now be GE 1A).
Quarter Catalog Changes:
- No requirement changes - you must complete your GE courses on the Quarter Catalog
- You must still complete all requirements with their existing stipulations:
- Three courses in Lower-Division Area C, each from a different course prefix
- Three courses in Area D, from at least two different course prefixes
- GE Area E (see FAQ below)
- 8 units of GE Electives in Areas B, C, and D (standard template): select from two different areas (B, C, and D)
- Course descriptions in the catalog and Schedule Builder descriptions will show both old and new GE designations so that you can make the right choices based on your catalog. You will continue selecting classes using the GE Area numbers you’re already familiar with on your curriculum display or Degree Progress Report (DPR). Be sure to pay attention to which catalog you are following and to the corresponding course descriptions for that catalog.
-
Example: if you still need to complete a B4 (Math/Stat) requirement, simply look for B4-approved classes in Schedule Builder—just as you do now.
